Jefferson Dudley, affectionately known as "J.D.," son
of the late Jefferson and Edna (Robinson) Dudley was born
May 14, 1941 in Washington, D.C. and died December 5, 2002
in Washington, D.C.
He was reared in historic LeDroit Park, and attended D.C.
public schools, which included Mott Elementary, Banneker,
Jr. High and McKinley Tech Senior High. He received his
Certificate of Completion from Compton College, in Compton,
California in 1964 majoring in human relations. In
Washington, D.C. he completed two more years of academic
study in physical education at Howard University.
His professional career included years of service for
both the private and public sectors. Among his many activities
included his employment at Maxwell Tillerson Pharmacy,
the Peace Corps and the United States Postal Service.
In 1967 he moved to New York and worked as a Child Care
Counselor at Hillcrest Center for Children, Pleasantville
Cottage, and New York City Group Homes until returning
home in 1978.
Upon returning to Washington, D.C., he worked on Capitol
Hill as support staff in the House of Representatives until
1995.
J.D. was an avid music lover of jazz, blues, rock-n-roll
and oldies but goodies. He attended musical festivals that
he knew of throughout the United States. He loved discussing
current events. Some of his favorite pastimes were spent
playing Scrabble, pinochle and chess. He loved traveling,
both domestic and international.
He was a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.,
which he loved dearly.
In mourning, he leaves his beloved relatives and friends.
