Brother James C. Vereen's life is characterized by a singular
distinction. He was the first Polemarch of the New Rochelle-White Plains Alumni Chapter, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
Jim also has another distinction. He is one of our Chapter's
50 year member of the Fraternity. As a founder and charter
member of our chapter, he was instrumental in establishing
the very solid foundation upon which this chapter is built.
Initiated into Tau Chapter, West Virginia
State College. Brother Vereen also worked as an instructor
at the college for three years following his graduation.
After relocating to the New York area in the early fifties,
Jim has vigorously involved himself in most phases of the
life of each community in which he has resided. While being
employed in several engineering assignments for the IBM
Corporation for 25 years, Jim has held diverse positions,
both in Kappa Alpha Psi, and in the community. These positions
include Chairman of the Guide Right Committee, Tri-chairman
of the 1976 Northeastern Province Career Weekend, Tri-chairman
of the 1977 Province Council Planning Committee and a member
of our Board Directors. The Lions Club of Yorktown Heights
has laid claim to much of Brother Vereen's leisure time.
He has variously held the Office of President, 3rd Vice
President and a member of the Board of Directors. He is
currently the 2nd Vice President of the Lions Club.
In Kappa Alpha Psi, Brother Vereen has garnered
the following honors: Alumni Chapter Achievement Award,
Northeastern Province Achievement Award, our Chapter's Kappa
Man of the Year Award and the Chapter's Meritorious Award.
The last two awards were bestowed on two occasions, each.
Jim and his Wife Dorothy are the parents
of James C. Vereen Jr., Kenneth Vereen and Debora Vereen.
James Vereen Jr. and his wife Judith are the parents of
Jim and Dorothy's only grandchildren, Justin and Jaren.
Debora is not married and Kenneth's wife is also named Debora.
Both of Brother Vereen's sons, James C. Jr.
and Kenneth are members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
Jim is an ordained deacon and is a member
of the Men's Club and Men's Chorus of the Antioch Baptist
Church, Bedford Hills, New York. Through his long term association
with the Male Mentoring Program at the Oakside School, Brother
Vereen is able to Bring the full thrust of Guide Right to
his third grade charge.
When we as Brothers examine the "bricks
and mortar" of our Chapter, James C. Vereen is part
of that noble foundation.
