Brother James Cobb is an innovative engineer-par excellence.
As president of his company, Pilot Machine Designers, of
South Norwalk, Connecticut, Jim and his team of engineers
design and build machines that have the proud history of
being able to build mechanical products. For twenty five
years Jim and Pilot Machine Designers have been building
prototypes in their machine shop and solving problems for
businesses and individuals who have a need or idea.
Jim and his former partner started the company in a local
garage. In 1980 they bought the building they now occupy
in South Norwalk. The company displays its multifaceted
capabilities by also serving as the research and development
department for their clients, or can provide the prototype
machine shop for companies with engineers but who lack production
facilities.
Jim has a strong belief in and commitment to the value
of education. He is currently in his second year as chairman
of the Greater Norwalk Chamber of Commerce/Norwalk Public
Schools, School to Work Program. Jim believes that business,
government and the public have to address what has been
happening with our children, especially those not fortunate
enough to go to college.
His educational beliefs and commitment carry over to his
Kappa activities. He has been chairman of the chapter's
Scholarship Committee for over four years. Initiated into
the Omega Chapter at Drake University while a mechanical
engineering major at nearby Iowa State University, Brother
Cobb also serves as our chapter representative to the Urban
League's Black Scholars Program.
Brother Cobb is blessed with a very active and involved
family. His wife, Mary, is a retired physician, once headed
the Women and Adolescent Program for the Westchester County
Department of Health. Prior to being employed by the County.
She was engaged privately in the general practice of obstetrics.
Jim's lovely family also includes two daughters, Lane a
personal trainer who resides in Baltimore, and Pamela, a
physician who practices in Philadelphia. His son, Keith,
who starred as Noah in the soap opera "All My Children"
on ABC-TV for two and one-half years is now pursuing a career
in the movies in Hollywood.
Brother Cobb owns a boat and often sails on the historic
Hudson River. The City of Norwalk, the business community,
our youth and Kappa Alpha Psi are lucky to have Jim as our
pilot.
